The National Eucharistic Congress is being held this week at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, from Wednesday, July 16 through Sunday July 21. Four pilgrimages, each carrying the Eucharist, have been converging upon Indianapolis from the North, South, East and West of the Unted States, for weeks now, and will join in Indianapolis on Wednesday. It is the first such gathering in the United States in 83 years. The media has not made much of it, but it should be noted that this gathering is more than just pilgrims carrying Christ’s body in a monstrance. It is His mystical body, His Church, coming together in unity at a critical time. For those who are not Catholic, or those who do not believe in the real presence of His body in the Eucharist, you may want to watch Bishop Barron or other keynote speakers on EWTN or listen to Relative Radio during the conference. I don’t know what Bishop Barron is going to say, but for me his talks are usually very inspirational.
Our friends in Wisconsin were part of the North Eucharistic Revival pilgrimage which came though Wisconsin on its way to Indianapolis. They said, “The Revival came to two of our churches on June 20th. We had adoration at Saint Lawrence, with a walk around the Church, while carrying the Eucharist. Then everyone moved on to the Little Switzerland ski hill and processed with the Eucharist around the Ice Age trail. From there we then walked to Saint Peter Church for adoration. It was wonderful. It felt like we were walking with Jesus.”
I think everyone agrees we need more focus on God as a nation, and we need unity rather than division. He is the unifier. If you are not focused on Him, it is very easy to become a divider.
